After each action is performed, the response or next action is located under the previous one. For example, the actor could request to log in, this would be represented by login (username, password). Messages will often appear at the top or bottom of a system sequence diagram to illustrate the action in detail. When an action line is connected to a lifeline it shows the interaction between the actor or system. Actions are performed with lines that extend between these lifelines. Under each actor or system there are long dotted lines called lifelines, which are attached to them. Reading a sequence diagram begins at the top with the actor(s) or the system(s) (which is located at the top of the page). These models show the logic behind the actors (people who affect the system) and the system in performing the task. In order to construct a system sequence diagram, you need to be familiar with the unified modeling language (UML). The purpose is to illustrate the use case in a visual format. These tasks may include repetitive, simple, or complex tasks. Professionals, in developing a project, often use system sequence diagrams to illustrate how certain tasks are done between users and the system. Indication of any loops or iteration area.Return values (if any) associated with previous messages.Messages (methods) invoked by these actors. This allows the specification of simple runtime scenarios in a graphical manner.Ī system sequence diagram should specify and show the following: Key elements of sequence diagram Ī sequence diagram shows, as parallel vertical lines ( lifelines), different processes or objects that live simultaneously, and, as horizontal arrows, the messages exchanged between them, in the order in which they occur. A system sequence diagram should be done for the main success scenario of the use case, and frequent or complex alternative scenarios. All systems are treated as a black box the diagram places emphasis on events that cross the system boundary from actors to systems. Sequence diagrams are sometimes called event diagrams or event scenarios.įor a particular scenario of a use case, the diagrams show the events that external actors generate, their order, and possible inter-system events. Sequence diagrams are typically associated with use case realizations in the 4+1 architectural view model of the system under development. The diagram depicts the processes and objects involved and the sequence of messages exchanged as needed to carry out the functionality. In software engineering, a sequence diagram or system sequence diagram ( SSD) shows process interactions arranged in a time sequence.

Decimal time can help prevent this through standardization. On the other hand, if inaccurate calculations lead to overpayment, the firm will bear unnecessary expenses. Decimal time conversion also helps companies minimize errors and avoid problems arising from incorrect time calculations.įor example, if work time is inaccurately calculated during payroll and the total pay is a lower amount of compensation, hourly employees can take legal action against the business. This requires conversion into decimal form since pay rates can’t be calculated off hours and minutes. The manager needs to accurately calculate the payable amounts for each hourly employee, either by rounding off time or using actual hours. For example, in an 8 hour day, one employee might work for 7 hours and 49 minutes, while another employee works for 8 hours and 23 minutes. While not every business may keep track of employee hours, timesheet conversion is essential for companies that hire hourly employees.Įmployees don’t work perfect hours. If your organization uses military time (24 hour clock), timesheet conversion will involve converting military time into standard hours before converting it to the decimal format. Once all employee time is converted from standard hours to decimal time, the decimal time is multiplied by the respective wage rates, and taxes are subtracted to obtain the final amount. This helps companies handle the payroll process easily since all their time records follow a standard format after conversion. Timesheet conversion is the process of converting hours and minutes into decimal form. 3 Steps To Follow When Converting Time For Payroll.(Click on any link below and jump to a section of your choice) We’ll also show you how to use time tracking tools to convert hours and minutes into decimal form with ease. In this article, we’ll tell you why timesheet conversion is important and how you can convert time for the payroll process. However, many firms have trouble with accurately calculating decimal time, resulting in problems when compensating employees. Turning standard tracked time (hours and minutes) into decimal time makes payroll calculation a lot easier for companies. Timesheet conversion is essential for businesses that track employee hours. I’d love to sit here, sipping my Pepsi Max, able to back up others’ experiences in running Sonic Mania on Linux - but alas! I don’t it! The main “bug” with Sonic Mania on Linux is that that it only works with xinput controllers. The Sonic Mania WineHQ DB entry grades the game as “silver”, a ranking awarded to apps and games that have ‘with minor issues that do not affect typical usage’. The game has been reported to run well on an Ubuntu 16.10 install with PlayOnLinux (a GUI front-end that makes various tweaks and adjustments easier), and a fresh 32bit wine prefix with the Windows Steam client installed. This Window compatibility layer isn’t quite as widely used as it once was (thanks to thousands of games being available natively on Linux via Steam), but it’s still a useful fallback in situations like this, where no official Linux release is forthcoming. Before you pull your bright red sneakers on to join in the spin-dash melee there are a few rings for you to jump through (or should that be for?).įor one, you can’t skip the WINE requirement. We would need to do further testing called karyotyping to find out what which type Manny is. For example, one zygote had a black coat color and the other an orange. Zygotes are formed just after fusion of the egg and sperm. Chimera: This is where two zygotes fuse together. For example, the original X coded for black coat color and the mutation coded for orange coat color. In the case of coat color, the mutation would be in the skin cells. Somatic Mutation: This mutation in the somatic (non-germinal (sperm or egg)) cells in the developing embryo. The Y codes for male genitalia, one X codes for black coat color and the other X codes for orange. XXY Male: (known as Klinefelter’s Syndrome in humans). There are three ways that this can happen: How can Manny’s coat have black, orange and white since he would need to be genetically XX in order to have both orange and black coat colors? We know XX equals female genitalia so how can Manny be male? The white color is coded separately on a non-sex chromosome. Males only have one X, so they can be solid black or orange but not both. This is because calico cats have a genetic condition called piebalding. What is the difference between a tortoiseshell and calico Calicos differ from tortoiseshell cats because they have patches of white as well as patches of orange and black. Since female cats have two X chromosomes, they can be solid black, solid orange or both black and orange. Tortoiseshell cat (Source: Lucashawranke CC BY-SA 4.0 via Wikimedia Commons). The X chromosome codes for the coat colors – orange/red and black. There are different genes that come in to play to determine the pattern of stripes or spots and how they are expressed in a given cat.Ĭats’ coat colors are linked to their sex chromosomes (XY). Calico and Tortoiseshell cats can also have tabby marks within the colors – this is known as a ‘patched tabby’ pattern sometimes also referred to as Torbie or Tortoiseshell Tabby. However we can generally see the stripes in a lighter color (orange) but they may be hidden in a darker color (black). The stripes that we see on a cat’s coat are also related to the pattern, but not specifically the color. Tortoiseshell cats have mottled orange and black colors usually with little or no white. Calico coats have large patches of orange, black and white. Though the average age of the audience reflected the growing age of the band, 20-somethings in patched-up jean jackets holding red Solo cups embraced the gospel of the Sabbath as enthusiastically as anyone who caught the band during their ‘70’s prime would. The audience followed suit, rocking out and showing their respect for the heavy metal icons. These guys obviously wanted to go out on a high note, a flame of celebration and jubilation. The last image of the night, burned into the skulls of all attendees, was the band standing shoulder-to-shoulder in front of a video projection of a fiery finale: “The End,” spelled in traditional Black Sabbath purple, in front of a burning world. They may have earned their opening slot due to lead singer Jay Buchanan’s ear-splitting, throat-tearing screams and screeches - similar to a certain Prince of Darkness’s back in the day. However, they kept the audience amused and satisfied with their solid, plowing rock. Only about 60% of their members were wearing black - almost a faux pas at this particular show. Openers Rival Songs had a bit more of a bluesy, outlaw element inserted into their rock instead of the devilish factor that makes Sabbath compelling. They wrapped up their set with a performance of “God Is Dead?” from 2013’s 13 before ripping into “Dirty Woman” and “Paranoid.” Ozzy insisted that if the crowd was fired up enough, they would perform more songs - and he must have felt pretty satisfied, as the crowd had only chanted “One more song!” a handful of times before the band trudged back onstage for “Children of the Grave,” complete with syncopated pyrotechnics for extra metalness. Following that came an elongated drum solo during “Rat Salad” featuring Clufetos it seemed out of place at a celebration of the classic Black Sabbath lineup, but it did provide a chance for the rockers to regain their breath before the steady staccato drum introduction to “Iron Man” came crashing down. “After Forever” and “Into the Void” from Master of Reality (1971) were early hits on the setlist, before the always-rocking “War Pigs” brought everyone to their feet in an incredible highlight of a performance, with sirens blasting and fog creeping over a blood-red stage.Ī little later I was treated to the first bass solo I’ve ever seen at a major concert thanks to Butler, who performed the “Bassically” medley from their debut album’s “Behind the Wall of Sleep/NIB” track. The majority of the band's set focused on their first three albums, reveling in their Ozzy years during their last hurrah (Osbourne was out of the band from 1979 to 1997) and playing relentless hits to keep the audience constantly on their feet. Near the drum set sat a bucket of water and a sponge available for the sole purpose of allowing Ozzy to have something to dunk his head into - his stringy, wet hair making him look even more crazed. Ozzy thirsts for audience interaction, spending the entire concert hurrying from center stage to both sides, demanding hands all the way in the air. Iommi and Butler sound as clear and as rocking as they ever have though Ozzy’s movements are a bit more restrained and his screech a bit more slurred than they were during the Nixon Administration, it's clear that the mania is still there. With each founding member closer to 70 than 60 now, black magic seems to have preserved their menace. (That fact has caused Black Sabbath to be the frequent target of protests, right up to the present day - outside the venue last night, men stood on milk crates with signs hoisted up for all to see declaring the many ways you could find yourself on the actual highway to hell.) The band revels in their theatrical blasphemy, with crosses on long silver chains hanging from the musicians' necks and Ozzy screaming about how “God is dead" - still playing the mad, dark priest, there to preach the gospel of the Black Sabbath. It’s a near impossible task to discuss the band or their long-haired, mad-eyed ringleader without using any pseudo-religious imagery. The band came onstage to “Black Sabbath,” from their eponymous 1970 debut, after a short video promo featuring some of Sabbath’s hallmarks: death, destruction, demons. On this tour, the remaining three members of the iconic heavy metal pioneers are joined by Tommy Clufetos, the drummer in Ozzy’s solo touring band, instead of founding drummer Bill Ward - due to contractual and other contentions. The Lewis diagram for CCl4 is: The electron- pair geometry around the C atom in CCI4 is. Covalent bonds can be broken if energy is added to a molecule. Covalent bonds can be nonpolar or polar, depending on the electronegativities of the atoms involved. Electronegative ligands such as F will always go to the axial sites. In general, by this reasoning, lone pairs and electropositive ligands such as CH 3 will always prefer the equatorial sites in the trigonal bipyramidal geometry. This model assumes that electron pairs will arrange themselves to minimize repulsion effects from one another. CCl4 has a relatively low melting point compared to other compounds. This can be attributed to the weak intermolecular forces between the CCl4 molecules. The molecules are held together by London dispersion forces, which are relatively weak compared to other types of intermolecular forces. Well start by looking at the valence electrons. = 0.867 \:bond (formal \: charge = -0.122)\)īecause fluorine is more electronegative than a lone pair, it prefers the axial site where it will have more negative formal charge. The valence shell electron pair repulsion (VSEPR) theory is a model used to predict 3-D molecular geometry based on the number of valence shell electron bond pairs among the atoms in a molecule or ion. In the Couette flow, a fluid is trapped between two infinitely large plates, one fixed and one in parallel motion at constant speed u denotes the transpose. Although it applies to general flows, it is easy to visualize and define in a simple shearing flow, such as a planar Couette flow. Viscosity is the material property which relates the viscous stresses in a material to the rate of change of a deformation (the strain rate). For instance, in a fluid such as water the stresses which arise from shearing the fluid do not depend on the distance the fluid has been sheared rather, they depend on how quickly the shearing occurs. In other materials, stresses are present which can be attributed to the deformation rate over time. Stresses which can be attributed to the deformation of a material from some rest state are called elastic stresses. For instance, if the material were a simple spring, the answer would be given by Hooke's law, which says that the force experienced by a spring is proportional to the distance displaced from equilibrium. In materials science and engineering, one is often interested in understanding the forces or stresses involved in the deformation of a material. In a general parallel flow, the shear stress is proportional to the gradient of the velocity. The relative strength of this force is a measure of the fluid's viscosity. Since the shearing flow is opposed by friction between adjacent layers of fluid (which are in relative motion), a force is required to sustain the motion of the upper plate. Definitions Dynamic viscosity Illustration of a planar Couette flow. Viscum also referred to a viscous glue derived from mistletoe berries. The word "viscosity" is derived from the Latin viscum (" mistletoe"). A fluid that has zero viscosity (non-viscous) is called ideal or inviscid. Zero viscosity (no resistance to shear stress) is observed only at very low temperatures in superfluids otherwise, the second law of thermodynamics requires all fluids to have positive viscosity. For example, the viscosity of a Newtonian fluid does not vary significantly with the rate of deformation. However, the dependence on some of these properties is negligible in certain cases. In general, viscosity depends on a fluid's state, such as its temperature, pressure, and rate of deformation. For a tube with a constant rate of flow, the strength of the compensating force is proportional to the fluid's viscosity. This is because a force is required to overcome the friction between the layers of the fluid which are in relative motion. Experiments show that some stress (such as a pressure difference between the two ends of the tube) is needed to sustain the flow. For instance, when a viscous fluid is forced through a tube, it flows more quickly near the tube's axis than near its walls. Viscosity quantifies the internal frictional force between adjacent layers of fluid that are in relative motion. Thus its SI units are newton-seconds per square meter, or pascal-seconds. Viscosity is defined scientifically as a force multiplied by a time divided by an area. For liquids, it corresponds to the informal concept of "thickness": for example, syrup has a higher viscosity than water. The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to deformation at a given rate. |
